Drew Brees officially owns the city of NO, and it couldn;t have happened to a better guy. I hop the fans who deserve this after a very tough existence don't show their asses tonight and burn the town.

The NFC South is officially the best division in the NFC with this, their second Superbowl and 4th appearance in the decade. No other division in the conference can claim that, especially when each and every team made a trip. I doubt that has ever happened in NFL history, not to mention all the worst to first streaks and all until this year.

As for the Colts and Manning, they appear doomed to be the NFL's Atlanta Braves. For whatever reason they can dominate in the regular season, but fail to reach their potential when it matters. Manning will still be the best QB of all time before his career is over, but only winning one title (so far) in 10+ chances is not a good record.

Congrats to the Saints and the city of New Orleans, a city given its pulse and identity by the incomparable Louis Armstrong.

Congrats to Drew Brees, the Saint's awesome skill players and the Saints defense.

Peyton Manning, as great as he is...is becoming more like Jim Kelly than he is Joe Montana. Yeah...they are both in the HoF - but...

Congrats to the Saints and "Who Dat" Nation on a great Victory tonight...

As for Peyton, funny thing they mentioned - his record in the Playoffs is now 9-9... How can a Team be so good during the regular Season and have a playoff record like that? Maybe when they're 14-0 they should actually go for it instead of resting starters...

The only thing that's a little sad - the Bucs JINX is officially over... They defeated the Saints during the regular season and the Saints still won the SuperBowl...

LF, with all due respect, that streak of ours was a bit dubious and I'm glad it's gone. Not exactly a flattering thing to quote.

Just curious, did any other Bucs fans have the Déjà vu moment when that guy picked off that pass and returned for the game clincher? It was almost identically similar to the Barber moment against the Eagles were driving to make a game of it against us in the NFCCG.

I am so happy for the fans of NO, who arguably have suffered more than we have over the past 40+ years since coming into the league in 1966 with ATL. And Brees' story in a great story as well. An undersized guy who was thrown the curb after getting hurt in SD, spurned by Miami and some other teams in FA, and winning it all in the most unlikely of places.

I am so happy for the Saints and their fans. Interesting dinking game? What do y'all think of the quick releases and over 85% of the passes being checkoff or let's get something type of passes? These two teams weren't like that this year. To me it seemed like just throw it short and see if the linebackers can tackle. Manning made a great pass to clark and a couple decent ones but the majority of his passes would be classified in his terms (taking a playf off). 10-0 Indy early and they get outscored 31-7? A killer pick 6 when the game could have been tied up with less than 4 minutes to go? A great camera angle from being showing as Manning started his motion before the WR broke the dback saw that and broke perfectly where if it was a hitch and go he would have been wide open for a score. One too many 5 yard passes. Pitchers and catchers report when?
This could be the Year!

Here is an interesting coincidence LF and DT.

Ronde Barber and Tracy Porter's both scored their int TDs with exactly 3 minutes and 12 seconds left in the 4th quarter.

Did anyone else notice on the pick 6 that Manning got blocked in the back and knocked to the ground? Not sure if he would've made the tackle, but maybe he slows Porter down a bit for others? An interesting non-call imho.

Playoffs are a great time to be a blocker. You have to do something really horrible to get a holding call.

I just tivoed it and Manning was on the 50 running toward the sideline when the dback pointed to the blocker to block Manning and cut back. When Manning got hit he had over run the play and had his back to the runner. This is not an illegal block. I remember when Favre threw a pick against Chicago and a similar thing happened. Favre went for the tackle but the guy cut back. Favre couldn't stop and Urlacher blocked him in the back. The NFL Network looked at it and stated if the block to the back comes with the back to the play it is not an illeagal block since he would be facing the runner if he was turned around. Manning was running to the sideline and could not stop. TD game over.

So a crackback is legal if the player you're blocking is facing away from the play? Or is it different during a pick play?

Do you recall when Favre was blocked like that by Urlacher and I thought that should have been an illegal block. Think about it though if you are about to make a play you should be facing the runner. Manning was running toward the sideline slightly away from the runner. An easy cut back and if there was no blocker Manning could not have stopped in time. He tried to slow down and the dlineman pushed him and down goes Manning. A no call similar to Urlacher's block.

If it's a legal play, there's no fine. The outcome is irrelevant. Guys get hurt on legal plays all the time.

Something tells me that if Peyton were to get seriously hurt by a block in the back, legal or not, there'd be a huge outcry.

Maybe so...but the outcry would be misguided. If it's not an illegal play there's nothing to fine. If your star DE tears an ACL while getting legally blocked by the opponent's left tackle - who is just doing his job - are you going to fine the tackle just because the star player got hurt? Or, to make it about the idolized and protected QBs, if Clay Matthews sacks Brett Favre on a perfectly legal play (hey, a guy can dream) and Favre gets hurt, are you going to fine the rookie for doing his job?
We'll never forget you, Brent...

No fines for legal plays. The Saints got fined 3 times for the 2 called illegal hits on Favre and also the non-called illegal hit on Favre that had the biggest effect on the game. The other 12 hits on him were not fined. Suds would you be happy for a hit that is illegal that was not called by the officials if it knocked Favre out or are you a fan who supports playing the game within the rules?

What do you think?

Do you think - as much as I dislike the diva - that I would support Favre getting hurt on a dirty (illegal) play? Do you really think I'm that kind of a fan...or that much of a hater?

I know you have trouble comprehending my posts - which causes me sometimes to question my career as a writer - but I was not wishing for him to get hurt in my above post. I was "dreaming" about a simple sack, which the Packers were unable to do against the Vikings. If Favre gets knocked out of the game on a LEGAL play, I have no problem with that...but since you require clarification of my ethical makeup, I would be pissed if Favre got hurt on a dirty hit as much as I was when Charles Martin bodyslammed Jim McMahon back in the 80s and messed up his shoulder.

Obviously it's OK when it happens to Rodgers, though.

I thought that was the way but was not 100% sure so I asked. I did laugh at Kenny Stills rediculously late hit on Matt Suhey. Was it right? No Was it dirty? Absolutely. Was it funny? It was a WOW!
